Former Indian journalist Vinod Dua has died at the age of 67, and his daughter was confirmed on television.
“Our disrespectful, fearless and wonderful father, Vinod Dua has died,” Mallika Dua, a comedian and comedian, announced the death of her father. post on Instagram Friday.
Dua, a pioneer in Indian broadcasting, became very popular in the 1980s from his work with state-run radio station Doordarshan, to other media outlets including NDTV and the Indian digital platform The Wire.
“He lived an unchanging life, rising from the refugee population of Delhi to the peak of journalism for more than 42 years, all the time, always telling the truth,” wrote his daughter.
Dua and his wife Padmavati “Chinna” Dua were infected with COVID-19 during a second Indian attack in April-May. Chinna Dua died in June. The former journalist has not been well since. He was transferred to the ICU at Apollo Hospital on Monday.
Dua received several awards for his work including in 1996 when he won the Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Award.
The Government of India awarded Padma Shri for Journalism in 2008.
‘Great’
Friends and acquaintances took to the Internet to pay their respects to Dua. NDTV co-founder Prannoy Roy called him “the greatest in his time”.
“It’s an amazing talent that I admire and respect – and for whom I learned a lot over the years we worked together,” she tweeted.

Arfa Khanum Sherwani, editor of The Wire, said Dua was “more than a friend, a friend, a philosopher and a guide”. “There was no one like him.”

Dua was is accused of sedition in 2020 by a member of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) speaking out against the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi.
“Even the weakest, you have given Indian Journalism a well-known verdict. No journalist can be arbitrarily convicted of treason because Vinod Dua fought for them, as he always does,” Mallika said of the last case.
India’s Supreme Court has rejected Vinod’s case in June this year.
