President Bidya Devi Bhandari is expected to ask Oli to lead the people soon after losing the main vote.
Nepal’s Prime Minister has lost confidence in parliament, concluding an attempt to show he has enough support to stay in office.
Ninety-three members of parliament supported Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli, with 124 voting for him on Monday. A new group of 15 MPs within his ruling party has not left.
President Bidya Devi Bhandari is expected to ask Oli to lead a permanent government while parliamentary parties seek to form a new government.
There was no immediate comment from Oli.
Oli’s Communist Party won the election in late 2017 and was elected prime minister by parliament in early 2018. His party’s first split in March had already weakened him, forcing him to head a small government, and a new split emerged this week.
He sought confidence in trying to show that he had enough support to remain strong.
Oil was criticized for its response to the coronavirus epidemic, while the Himalayan state recently reported a new increase in the number of causes and deaths.
Authorities have set up more facilities in the country since last month and are set to increase this as hospitals say they have run out of bed, air and medicine.
The Himalayan State on Monday released a new 24-hour report of 9,127 cases, double the number recorded on April 10. The total number of cases is 403,794, and 3,859 people, according to a government survey.
Oli became prime minister when his party joined forces with another Communist party formed by former Maoist terrorists, winning elections three years ago.
He began a fierce fight, however, with the leader of the former terrorists, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, who is also the party’s chairman.
Oli refused to allow Dahal to replace him as prime minister or to lead the party, although he had previously agreed to do so, which led to divisions within the party.
“He created instability and then he is responsible for the problems that the country is facing now,” Dahal said. “He no longer has confidence in parliament.”
Oli led the dissolution of parliament in December and announced new elections this year. The Supreme Court, however, reinstated the legislature and rescinded the new elections.
