Apple is closing most stores in response COVID-19 resume. Bloomberg reports The iPhone manufacturer has temporarily closed three stores in the US and Canada following a series of exposure and emergence of workers. Stores in Annapolis (Annapolis Mall), Miami (Brickell City Center) and the Canadian capital Ottawa (Rideau Center) will remain closed until December 18 or December 19.
It is not known how many employees produced COVID-19 in the affected stores. In words of Bloomberg, Apple reiterated what it once said it “always monitors[s]Plague and has a “complete” store protection system that includes daily health check-ups, masks, extra cleansing and paid sick leave.All employees should get tested for COVID-19 before returning.
There is no definite closure if this will continue soon. With the rising risk of infection and the uncertainty surrounding the new Omicron species of coronavirus, it would not be surprising if there were others until the recent wave was over.
This move also confirms the risk of retail employees in many stores, not just Apple. While most retailers are required to wear masks and share their health status, they will not avoid sick customers – and there are concerns that Apple store managers may force their subordinates to come even if they show signs of COVID-19. Stores can reduce risks, but cannot completely avoid them as long as the disease continues.
