Joe Biden has appointed former HP Meg Whitman as US ambassador to Kenya

Joe Biden has appointed Hewlett-Packard Meg Whitman as former US ambassador to Kenya, a well-known diplomat and senior Republican ambassador to California.

The White House announced this Wednesday along with five other ambassadors, including the appointment of former ambassador to the Alina Romanowski as US ambassador to Iraq.

Whitman’s election must be confirmed by the US Senate, which split 50-50 between Democrats and Republicans, with Vice-President Kamala Harris voting.

The election marks the latest political change that would not have happened to the company’s chief executive, who failed advertising for the California governor as a Republican in 2010, he spent $ 144m of his assets on his campaign.

Six years later, he approved for Democrat Hillary Clinton to oppose Donald Trump after supporting Republican Chris Christie in a major race.

Most recently, he announced his support for Biden at the Democratic National Convention last year and donated $ 500,000 to the Biden Victory Fund.

Democratic and Republican leaders have been known to offer ambassadors to higher politicians. This year, Biden named Democratic candidate and Comcast chief David Cohen as US ambassador to Canada.

Whitman is currently working on the boards of Procter & Gamble and General Motors. But his most recent business, Quibi video editing project, it ended in failure last year, closing just six months of its establishment. Whitman worked to raise billions of dollars to build the tower with former Walt Disney fighter Jeffrey Katzenberg.

A student at Princeton, Whitman obtained his MBA from Harvard and worked for several major US companies – including P&G, Disney and Hasbro – before joining eBay in 1998.

He is known to have taken over the company since he became a business giant during his ten years as a senior manager, later joining the HP team and becoming the CEO of Silicon Valley stalwart. He on the left the company in 2018 following a chaos six years of practice.
