Sir Richard Branson has promised to strike Jeff Bezos in the air, confirming his plans to launch his first Virgin Galactic cruise by July 11.
After nearly two decades of research and testing of the two companies, Branson’s escape is a battle to establish a billionaire comrade in just nine days.
“I truly believe that space is for all of us,” Branson said in a statement.
“After 17 years of research, engineering and technology, the new space business is poised to open up the entire universe to humans and transform the world for the better.”
Shares at Virgin Galactic leapt 25% in sales after hours. Its spacecraft, SpaceShipTwo Unity, has performed three air tests in the past, recently in May.
Last week the company was provided an extension and the U.S. Federal Aviation Authority to put all the payers, and prepare the way for the long-awaited Branson flight.
Branson’s trip from New Mexico will be one of three other tests that he intends to do before embarking on a six-seater passenger seat.
A Blue Origin spokesman did not respond to a request for comment on Branson’s revised schedule. His flight is expected to take place on July 20, starting at a location in western Texas.
He will be riding Bezos with his brother Mark, as well as the undisclosed winner of the third seat sold in the market last month for $ 28m.

Earlier on Thursday, Blue Origin announced that the fourth and final rider to arrive on the trip would be 82-year-old Wally Funk, an American pilot who had been part of the 1961 civil war.
The plot, called Mercury 13, involves testing women in the same way as men are.
The program was banned by the US government, which prohibits the use of firearms to educate women. Astronaut John Glenn, the third American astronaut, said sending women into space is at risk of “social catastrophe”.
Funk, who at 22 was the youngest in the Mercury 13 squad, should now be the largest to fly in space. He previously wrote $ 200,000 to buy a ticket to board the Virgin Galactic, Washington Post reports Thursday.
“I don’t think I’m going to go through this again,” he said in a video recording on television.
When asked by Bezos what he wanted to say when the Blue Origin company arrived in the desert in western Texas, Funk replied: “I answer, ‘Honey, that’s the best thing that ever happened to me!'”
