Benjamin Netanyahu’s 12-year term as Prime Minister ends with MK 60 voting for a new government.

The Israeli parliament voted to end Benjamin Netanyahu’s 12-year term as Prime Minister, approving instead those who have promised to heal a nation divided by the departure of a longtime leader.

The new council vows to follow a Knesset vote that received 60 votes and 59 votes against the new government, made up of opposition leader centir Yair Lapid and Naftali Bennett.

Bennett will serve as prime minister for two years before Lapid takes over.

He will lead a party government in all political parties, including the first to represent a minority of 21% of Palestinian citizens of Israel.

The end of time

Netanyahu, the most prominent politician in Israel in his generation, failed to form a government after the March 23 election, which was the fourth in two years.

The 71-year-old is loved by his courageous followers and is hated by critics. His corruption charge, in cases he denies, only exacerbates the situation.

Opponents have long denounced what they see as Netanyahu’s divisions, the use of political tactics and submission to the government’s will for survival.
