Apple Wallet hotel support is now available, starting from Hyatt hotels

Back in WWDC 2021, Apple said iOS 15 and watchOS 8 will allow owners of iPhone and Apple Watch keep the keys to the digital hotel on their devices. While this did not lead to the release of these two versions, they are now available at six Hyatt locations in the US. As you might expect, it gives you the opportunity to store the digital version of your hotel keyboard in Apple Wallet.

You can add a key every time you save a room. However, you should still look at the front desk before using your iPhone or Apple Watch to enter your guest room or any other restricted area inside the hotel. Digital cards support Apple Wallet’s Express Mode, which means you do not have to prove your identity with Face ID or Touch ID whenever you want to use this feature.

If you ever think about extending your bed space or changing rooms, the hotel can change your key without the need to visit the front desk. Additionally, if your device starts running low on battery power and goes into Power Reserve mode, you can still use your iPhone or Apple Watch as a five-hour key.

The six places you can use your iPhone or Apple Watch to keep the key are: Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort, Hyatt Centric Key West Resort and Spa, Hyatt House Chicago / West Loop-Fulton Market, Hyatt House Dallas / Richardson, Hyatt Place Fremont / Silicon Valley and Hyatt Regency Long Beach.

Hyatt says he hopes to bring the technology to all its locations around the world. Sometime next year, Apple is also planning to allow iOS 15 and watchOS 8 to store government-issued IDs from selected countries.
