Hopper wants to challenge Airbnb and short-term vacation rental

Despite the already crowded market with big names like Airbnb and Vrbo, the Hopper travel app is now expanding its services to include short-term rental housing.

With more than two million assets spread across the globe, Hopper Homes (found within the Hopper app) should make it easier to reserve airfare, car rental and accommodation (hotel or temporary) in one place.

Hopper says users should be able to use filters to help reduce their options based on location, number of bedrooms, amenities and cost. And in the next few months, the company says it will be adding support to other storage features such as Predictability and Rate Reasons for this new service to help provide its customers with flexibility in their travel arrangements.

The final stage could be one of the biggest differences between Hopper Homes and its competitors. Some services like Airbnb allow reserves to choose from several types of restrictions including “flexible” plans that allow visitors to cancel late up to 24 hours before entry without penalty to “solid” plans that require visitors to cancel at least 30 days before entry.

By adding rental housing to its list of employees, the company hopes to attract more travelers who prefer to live in rented accommodation instead of hotels. Hopper says Zoomers and millennials are very popular, and more than 4 out of 10 borrowers are under 35 years of age.

As with its air travel and hotel reservations, Hopper also wants to incorporate its Carrot Cash approach to help customers save money, with the credit they get from renting apartments that can be used on other trips.
