iFixit he announced today joins Microsoft in developing and selling repair software for other Surface models. The connection will start with a debonder display, a reusable display, and a battery cover.
The types of devices that Microsoft-approved devices are designed for are not very useful when playing at home. Most – like Surface Laptop Go and Surface Pro 7+ – do not have the features or updates from iFixit. This may explain why, at present, pro-grade equipment is not being offered to consumers.
“Fixit Pro independent developers, Microsoft Authorized Service Providers, Microsoft Experience Centers, and Microsoft Commerce clients,” are the only organizations that are allowed to use these new tools, according to iFixit. “While it may not be necessary to complete DIY repairs, these new tools are designed to be durable and will help technicians create more recycling materials, helping to improve the accuracy and uniformity of the factory adhesion.”
According to On the beach, it was Microsoft that approached iFixit regarding affiliate marketing, though (and because) iFixit explicitly criticizes Surface line’s poor preparation.
