The WHO says 15 million people tested COVID-19 last week, most of which were reported in seven days.
The global case of COVID-19 was at an all-time high, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), with 15 million people tested positive for the virus within seven days until January 9.
The figure is up 55 percent from seven days ago, WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said Wednesday, adding that “significant numbers” are driven by Omicron’s differences.
Although most infectious diseases cause fewer infections than the Delta species, Tedros says Omicron is still a “dangerous virus”, especially for those who are not vaccinated.
The WHO’s comments came after Dutch Foreign Minister Wopke Hokestra announced that he had tested Covid-19 and teachers in France launched a protest against the government’s anti-virus system in schools.

“The exhaustion and frustration of the entire academic team has reached unprecedented levels,” eleven organizations said in a joint statement.
“The role of the minister and the government in this crisis is adequate due to the constant changes, impossible procedures and the lack of proper equipment to ensure that (schools) can function properly.”
The strike comes as teachers, parents and school administrators are struggling to comply with the new test rules, which were announced before the end of the Christmas holidays but have changed twice since they were criticized.
The unions said they expected more schools to close on Thursday and more teachers – including about 75 percent of elementary schools – joined the one-day school.
The Dutch foreign minister has COVID-19
Wopke Hoekstra, a Dutch foreign minister, is said to have tested positive for COVID-19 and to be alone at home for the next few days.
He announced on Twitter.
Hoekstra, who was sworn in on Monday, was in Brussels on Tuesday where he met with European Union President Joseph Borrel and Belgian Foreign Minister Sophie Wilmes.
