The White House is struggling to save its bid for Joe Biden’s $ 1.75tn Build Back Better bill by the end of the year, time is running out to defeat people who are worried about overspending and continuous inflation.

But the future of the legislation – which is compensated mainly by rising taxes on the wealthy and big business – remains unclear two weeks before the Democrats’ deadline to deliver Christmas.
Chuck Schumer, a Democrat in the Senate, had earlier said that the upper house of Congress would begin counting the money this week, after the package passed through the House of Representatives last month.
But many in Washington are still skeptical that the bill will come to the president’s table by the end of the year, due to Manchin’s refusal.
“I know people have been in a hurry for a long time to do something, but I think we see things going,” Manchin told reporters at Capitol Hill.
On Monday, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Biden’s management was “still” supportive of Schumer’s efforts to pass the ordinance by the end of the month, and said speculation that negotiations could take place next year was far from over.
Psaki was pleased with Biden and Manchin’s relationship, saying “their talks have always been fairly straightforward”.
Manchin told reporters: “I go to visit the president when he calls or wants to visit me. . . we speak honestly, as individuals, as two people who have known the Senate. ”
Democrats are looking to move Build Back Better without Republican support through a Senate approach called reconciliation, which would allow them to cross the 60-vote threshold. able to vote – needs support from all 50 Democratic senators.
