Apple is defending its new anti-child protection technology against privacy issues

Following the announcement this week, some experts think Apple has recently announced that iCloud will be kept private. If iCloud is encrypted but the company is able to detect what is happening to children, testify against them, and stop the culprit, which could solve some of Apple’s political problems.

We are not alone everything coercion: Many governments that want Apple to do more for child abuse also want to take action on terrorism and other crimes. But child abuse is a real and big problem where big modern companies have failed so far.

“Apple’s approach keeps it more secretive than anything I know,” said David Forsyth, chief of computer science at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, who reviewed Apple’s systems. “In my review, the system will increase the chances that people own or sell [CSAM] are available; this should help protect children. Harmless users should not lose their privacy, as the footage is disclosed only when there are similarities with CSAM images, as well as on images that are similar to CSAM images. The accuracy of the matching machines, including the limitations, raises serious doubts that unrecognized CSAM images will be revealed. ”

What about WhatsApp?

Every major technology company faces the dangers of child abuse on its platform. No one came closer like Apple.

Like iMessage, WhatsApp is an end-to-end sending platform with billions of people. Like any tower of its size, they face a major problem of violence.

“I read what Apple wrote yesterday and I’m worried,” WhatsApp head Will Cathcart said he wrote on Friday. “I think this is the wrong approach and a hindrance to secrecy around the world. People have also asked if we can take WhatsApp. The answer is no.”

WhatsApp also includes a description of the possibility so that each user can report what happened to WhatsApp. While the potential should be adequate, WhatsApp also reported more than 400,000 cases to NCMEC last year.

“This is Apple’s monitoring and construction program that can be easily used to browse confidential information on anything they or the government may think they need to improve,” Cathcart said in a tweet. “The countries where iPhones are sold will have different interpretations on the specifications. Will the system be implemented in China? What might they find objectionable, and how do we know? How can they meet requests from governments around the world to add other types of content to the list for recording? ”

In a press conference, Apple confirmed that the new technology will be released in the United States to date. But the company went on to say that it has a history of fighting for privacy and hopes to continue to do so. In this way, much of this depends on Apple.

The company said the new system would not be easily affected by government action – and repeatedly stressed that releasing it was as easy as shutting down iCloud.

Despite being one of the most popular messages in the world, iMessage has already been criticized for lack of widespread reports on the internet. As a result, Apple has been informing the NCMEC of the sub-sector that companies like Facebook do.

Instead of answering the question, Apple has done something different – and the end result is an open and perplexing question for anonymous individuals. For some, it’s a big change.

“Apple’s protection for children is a game changer,” said John Clark, NCMEC President. “The reality is that privacy and security for children can exist together.”

At a high price

An a believer would argue that opening up iCloud accounts while still exposing children’s material is a way to address violence and keep privacy – and perhaps even a political move that hinders disclosure from US, European, Indian, and Chinese officials.

The facts can be a matter of concern for what will happen to some of the world’s most powerful nations. It is a confirmation that Apple has received — and perhaps has already received — a call from major cities as government officials begin to consider a closer look at this technology. Political turmoil is one thing, the correction and control of other things. But the threat is not new and has not been fully explained. As a company owned a history of silent but profitable persuasion by China, Apple has a lot of work to do to persuade consumers to be able to resist oppressive governments.
