Dell XPS 13 review (2021): OLED performance

Place any OLED screen next to any non-OLED screen with what you have I will notice the colors. Whether it’s TVs, phones, or laptops now, OLED colors jump on the screen; it is very good-looking, very saturated, and very fast due to its dark brown.

So what is OLED and why should you be careful? Well, O is organic (LEDs are still light diodes). They are organic like chemistry, not organic like bananas with no prescription at the market. Light is emitted by molecules, usually rings of carbon atoms.

On a traditional display there is a light, and its light is emitted through a layer of material (which varies with the color of the display) that displays any type of pixel that needs to be displayed at any time. In OLED display, each diode is illuminated. There is no constant light, it lowers the battery. This is why blacks look so good on OLED displays; there is no presence of light, not something that obscures the light still.

I know what you think. If there is no lighting, why did the battery life go down? Should OLEDs use less energy? Well, when the screen is well lit – let’s say it’s a very white page – then the OLED screen seems to be using a lot of energy. The answer, or the answer, is the black way. All the OLED laptops I tried come with Windows in the dark, which helps a bit. (I turned it off and things got worse.) But if you’re online, which has clean pages, OLED screens will probably also drain your battery a lot.

I have changed my browser settings, Vivaldi, in the dark, I’ve changed headlines on Slack, Gmail, and other websites that I use frequently, and find that they really do work. But the internet is much brighter. For now, this means an OLED battery dump.

Why?

The big question then is whether an OLED screen is necessary. It depends. If you want a better battery life, have all the HD 2020 XPS models. You are also given the option to select RAM, storage, and processors.

With OLED, you are forced to take on the Core i7, 16 or 32 GB of RAM, and Iris Xe graphics, which are more for most people, not to mention the $ 1,600 price tag. On the other hand, going back to my 4K screen after OLED, well, a little bit of cleaning. I think I can have a shorter battery life.
