Israel says it deployed troops to fight Hamas in the Gaza Strip five days after the bombing of a Palestinian army that threw more than 1,500 stones at a Jewish state, Israeli forces said.
“Israeli forces and ground planes are attacking Gaza,” the military said. A military spokesman later explained that no Israeli army had entered Gaza.
But the deployment of military personnel on the project indicates an escalation of the five-day conflict and leads to rumors that Israel is preparing to attack the city for the first time since the 2014 conflict killed 2,000 Palestinians and 72 Israelis.
Israel and Hamas have fought three wars since the military took power in 2007.
