Someone is using broken copies of video game consoles to create a malware program from crypto mines on the computers of thousands of unsuspecting individuals – a process that has cost terrorists $ 2 million to date.

Researchers at Avast this week say a new malware program called Crackonosh had been found in PC competitions as eagles such as For Great Auto V and NBA 2K19.

Crackonosh does not go to work as soon as a virus-infected game is installed. Like most viruses, it needs to be hit to avoid suspicion or to find those who are unknowingly hitting them. A malicious approach is triggered after a short recovery, which forces the system to be secure, and provides any security tools and easy removal.

“Crackonosh puts itself in a position to modify complex Windows files and use Windows Safe mode to compromise system security,” wrote Daniel Bene. “This malware program protects itself by disrupting security programs, modifying its systems and using other anti-analysis methods to prevent it, which makes it difficult to detect and remove it.”

Avast revealed Thursday, that, he noticed Crackonosh after hearing reports from regulators about his anti-virus removal program.

Crackonosh’s main goal is to launch XMRig, a CPU / GPU miner. More than 222,000 cases have been diagnosed so far, more than $ 2 million in the monero cast, a popular cryptocurrency – a clear indication of this attack. The first outbreak began in June 2018, researchers say.

Beneš said the spread of fraudulent investors will not end unless the long-term program is still widespread.

“The secret is that you won’t get anything in vain,” said Beneš, “and when you try to steal software, there’s someone trying to steal from you.”
