The beginning of the Swedish movement Voi Technology has announced plans to go public in 2022, as a list of US competitors and the UK e-scooter test competition triggers market share.
Voi operates in 18 cities in the UK, including Liverpool, Bristol and Cambridge, and is said to account for about 70 percent of Britain’s market share. The company also operates throughout Europe.
Fredrik Hjelm, founder and CEO, told the Financial Times he was still considering where to write but said it would probably be in Europe. “We have started preparations for the public announcement and we will be ready in 2022,” he said. Voi said his income grew by 140% per year in 2021 to “more than $ 100m”.
The company announced it had raised $ 115m in its latest Series D line, led by Raine Group and VNV Global, at a cost of more than $ 1bn. Voi has raised $ 430m since its launch in 2018.
The new funding will be set to increase in Europe, including Ireland and the Netherlands, and introduce new types of vehicles such as e-bikes to its operations.
But the founders missed out on permission to take part in the e-scooter test in London this year. Opponents of Lime, Tier and Dott are found in the capital. Voi said it would provide future approval, but Hjelm said the inquiries should cover the same areas.
“The large cities have many jurisdictions which makes it difficult to run the project in the most efficient way [but] London is one of the worst, “he added.

Hjelm said Voi was looking at potential market opportunities and added that having a few companies that apply for licenses on testing is “good for everyone”.
