IBM CEO Arvind Krishna has established his position as successor

The governor who sees him as a successor to IBM has resigned from a major job, while a computer company in the US led behind current chief executive Arvind Krishna to complete a rehabilitation attempt.

Jim Whitehurst, former Red Hat boss, was set the price point taking over the top job IBM agreed to pay $ 37bn to a software company in 2017. He was later elected president of IBM, a name that the company often holds for the next CEO.

News of his departure eroded 4% on IBM stock prices on Friday. However, Mr Krishna, who many saw on Wall Street as a revolutionary, described the move as a model for IBM under his leadership.

“He has done wonderful things for us, but he does not live here forever,” Whitehurst said. Speaking in an interview with the Financial Times, he added: “The most senior executives they have are usually a year or two away.”

IBM bosses also said that Whitehurst wanted to replace him but any hopes of taking on the new role were dashed when the company’s team helped him move on to the next phase of IBM’s leadership.

“It is very possible. But I can’t imagine what time it was for him, ”Whitehurst said.

Krishna also said that the committee named him chairman and chief earlier this year as a sign of support for him. The biggest change for managers that was announced Friday is that “I’m creating a leadership team to take IBM where I lead it,” he said.

Krishna was the founder of Red Hat acquisition, a bet-the-farm partnership designed to give IBM a strong position in the electronics business against giants such as Amazon Web Services and Microsoft.

Krishna, a former head of research, encouraged Red Hat’s acquisition under former CEO Ginni Rometty, before retiring in April last year. ready to promote Whitehurst, who had spent 12 years running Red Hat.

IBM is hiring the most outspoken outsiders from the company, on Friday announcing the appointment of former Hewlett Packard Enterprise CEO Ric Lewis as IBM’s chief operating officer, along with its senior management.

More and more IBM executives as part of the transition include Rob Thomas, a senior cloud and data management officer, who participates in a major marketing and advertising company. Tom Rosamilia, a former systems officer, was selected to run cloud-based and operational systems, which play a key role in trying to get IBM into smart technology and computers.

The management restructuring that was announced Friday was designed to make the company “more wasteful and more efficient,” Krishna said.

He added that Whitehurst had agreed to continue as a consultant and was not going to work for another company. “She is very kind. They are not going anywhere right now, ”said Krishna.
