Will the Hong Kong ‘patriotic’ election bring a new era? | | Choices
Movie Time 25 minutes 35 minutes
Sunday’s election confirmed that ‘Chinese lovers’ run Hong Kong alone.
It is designed to ensure that what China calls “patriotism” is the only one that should sit in its seat in Hong Kong parliament.
Voters in Hong Kong cast their ballots for the first election since China enacted a national security law last year.
Leaders in Beijing are insisting, as far as security laws are concerned, that electoral reforms are essential for stability in the face of major protests.
Demonstrators marched in protest of the democratic process, which was confirmed by the British government in 1997.
Will the election bring a new era? Or is voting just a means to an end?
