Palestinian minister released on death row Conflicts between Israel and Palestine Issues

Nasri Abu Jaish claims that Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh twice refused to step down, prompting him to stay in power.

The Palestinian Ministry of Labor has announced its resignation amid protests over the death of a freedom fighter, said on Sunday.

Nasri Abu Jaish, who is also a representative of the People’s Party’s left-wing government, said at the end of June he would leave the PA under the leadership of Fatah for “disrespecting the rule of law and freedom of the people”.

Abu Jaish has announced his resignation as protesters demand the resignation of President Mahmoud Abbas, the violent arrest and imprisonment of freedom fighter Nizar Banat.

Banat, 43, who is known for his social media coverage of the PA scandal, he died on June 24 shortly after a security guard entered his home, he was beaten and dragged.

But on Sunday, Abu Jaish said in a statement that Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh had twice refused to resign, prompting him to “continue in the Palestinian state as minister of labor”.

The PA has announced the opening of an investigation into Banat’s death, but protesters continued to hold demonstrations several weeks later.

On Sunday, hundreds of people in the West Bank city of Ramallah called for Abbas to step down, and criticized Palestinian security for fighting to end the recent protests.

“We will remain on the streets until justice is done,” Maher Akhras said on Sunday, criticizing PA for “killing Nizar Banat and torturing protesters”.

Banat registered as a candidate in the Palestinian parliamentary elections scheduled for May, until Abbas suspended them permanently.

Samir Abu Zarzour, the doctor who examined him, said the injuries to Banat’s body showed that he had been hit in the head, chest, neck, legs and arms, less than an hour after his arrest and death.

Demonstrators have expressed outrage at the lack of democracy in the region.

“We have the right to vote, to elect our representatives and to elect a president,” said Omar Assaf.

“We need to rebuild the entire political system in Palestine.”

Protests in Ramallah sparked by Banat’s death in prisons last week.
