A standard 2021 Porsche Taycan has broken the Guinness World Record for the shortest paid time to cross the United States by electric car. It only takes an additional 2 hours, 26 minutes and 48 seconds to travel 2,834.5 miles from Los Angeles to New York. Although the broken record is well-known, there was one who did it before: A Kia EV6, which he had to be held accountable for 7 hours, 10 minutes and one second to do the same, but a little longer, a trip from New York to LA.
Wayne Gerdes, best known for his efficient handling and use of the term “hypermiling,” led the way. Gerdes said the first time he charged Taycan on a 350KW charger, his battery dropped to 6 to 82 percent in just 22 minutes. He relied on Electrify America’s CCS DC networks to speed up the process, as the company is a partner in this experiment.
