The US is working to stop Chinese military from speaking out quantum computing control. The Department of Commerce has added eight technicians to its list to prevent it from assisting Chinese troops in testing computers. Officials are concerned that organizations may be fed up with US “technology” that could help broken down, making ‘unbroken’ hide and to implement anti-secret or anti-maritime measures.
List focuses on mixed companies and researchers, including QuantumCTek and the Hefei National Laboratory for Physical Sciences in Microscale. The U.S. has added three corporations to Corad Technology Limited, a Chinese company that has been on the list since 2019, although it was not clear if quantum computing was involved – it was also accused of supporting Iranian troops and aerospace programs and North Korea “ahead. Companies.”
The Entity List reforms included 27 organizations and individuals, including 13 in Pakistan who are accused of supporting “unsafe” programs for nuclear weapons or missiles.
This will no doubt stop the use of Chinese military equipment on quantum computers where the country may need to research and develop more internal technologies. A growing blocklist could slow things down, however, by reducing China’s access to American processors and other devices that could speed up development. Think of this as a stumbling block that gives the US a better chance taking or retaining leadership.
